How to purify our Heart

Gourang Mahaprabhuji, the descension of Krishna said “In the age of Kaliyug, the remembrance of Krishna’s name is the only way to purify the heart and receive the Divine Bliss”.
Without loving remembrance of Radha Krishna, the mechanical repetition of Krishna mantra or name makes no sense. It’s all futile exercises. There must be a unity of heart and soul with Lord Krishna, there must be an affinity. If there is no affinity of any degree, there is no love and without love the mere repetition of the word Krishna has little spiritual value. Gourang Mahaprabhuji clearly stressed that devotion, remembrance or chanting must be done with a warm heart filled with Love for Krishna.

“My dear Devotees,
Sewa to Guru and God is the ultimate goals of every individual soul. The meaning of sewa is to follow Master’s orders and to surrender to His wishes. One should have humility, humbleness and forbearance while performing sewa. Therefore never think of your own interest instead perform sewa with the motive of pleasing God and Guru.

Need of Spiritual Master

The good sanskars (deeds) of previous births cause a natural inclination towards the path of God in people. Such people get naturally drawn towards the spiritual world. Many questions spontaneously come up from within: who am i? What is God? What is the aim of life? How can I make this life successful? Many such questions arise in the hearts of people. The saint kabir says – hari sumire so bar hai, guru sumire so paar – by taking the lord’s name you have reached only the start of your journey. You will reach your destination only by the grace of the guru.
Don’t expect much from the fact that you are chanting God’s name. How can you love someone whom you have never met or seen? How can such love be spontaneous? Neither have you seen him nor do you know where to look for him. All that you know is that there is some search, some thirst, and some turbulence inside you. But what is the ahead?
The guru is the only way. Only the guru.
You can keep chanting the lord’s name for countless lives and you can keep contemplating him for countless births but you will never be able to find a trace of him. It will be a complete waste of time. We have to surrender our mind at the guru’s feet. Only our guru can lead us to the beloved. Look into those eyes that can constantly see shyama shyam. Take refuge at such feet which roam the realm of the divine. That is why kabir says –guru sumire so paar hai.
There are many who say, “What is the need for a guru? We can do everything on our own. After all isn’t everything written in the Gita and the Bhagwat and other scriptures? Why waste time in looking for a guru? We can be our own guru!”
The fact is that such people are being consumed by their own ego. They don’t want to surrender their tiny brains at the guru’s feet. But please tell me is it possible to achieve God by just reading the scriptures? Had this been the case then thousands of scholars would have attained God by now. But this is not the case. It is true that the shastras contain all the knowledge, but derive our own meaning from the verses. We interpret the scriptures to suit our own points of view. It is easy to make our own interpretation because after all the author has departed from this world a long time ago. He is definitely not going to come back and say- hey! What are you doing? This is not what I meant!
Once during his old age, Freud called all his important pupils from various countries. About thirty of them came. After dinner they started discussing freud’s philosophy. Soon a heated discussion began. Freud silently observed all the arguments. In the end he struck the table loudly and exclaimed, “this old man is still alive! You people are making these false interpretations of my philosophy and that too in my presence! If this is what is what is happening my lifetime I can well imagine what you will do to my teachings after I am gone.”
Thus we have to take refuge with the true realized saint who has complete knowledge of the scriptures.
Guru alone can lift us from the attachments of this world and he alone can place us on the lap of God. Have complete faith in the words of the guru. But you must also remember that the guru may give different advice to different people depending on the state of the evolution of the seeker. This may seem odd but actually there is no contradiction. Each patient is prescribed medicine according to his disease. The herb that cures one person may be harmful for another. Similar is the advice of the sad guru. The chemist gives you medicine according to what has been prescribed for you. Do you quarrel with him, “That fellow has been given red tonic, why don’t you give me the same!”?
Our guru will give us tonic that is right for us we must have full faith in what he says.

If the guru, the doctor of souls, is obtained, if the jeev believes in the doctors’ words and acts according to his advice, the disease of worldly attachments and is Maya sure to be cured .The good sanskars (deeds) of previous births cause a natural inclination towards the path of God in people. Sri Radha Kripa Katakshya, Part -1

GRACE OF GURU

Guru Kumhar shish kumbh hai gadh gadh kadhe khot
Antar haath sahaar de baahar mare chot……

- Kabir

You must have seen how a potter makes his pots. Kabir observes that the Guru is the potter and the disciple is the pot. The Guru prepares the disciple in the same way the potter makes pots. He makes you ready so that your vessel is ready to receive the divine.

If you observe the potter, you will see that although he holds the pot from the inside he keeps beating it from outside. How similar are the Guru’s actions! While holding you from within he keeps raining blows externally. Both are necessary. The pot’s sides are made possible with his supporting hand from inside, or else it will collapse. The external blows make the pot strong enough to retain water. With his grace even these blows will seem delightful to you and you will consider yourself fortunate and blessed.
Blows are very essential for strength. The guru will strike you from all directions. This is the real test. As soon as the guru starts testing, the disciple runs away. He starts thinking, “My guru is not even glancing in my direction, and he does not even talk to me. Add to that he is saying things to hurt me!” This is where he fails.

The guru acts with both hands. He will support you from inside so that you don’t collapse now. And he will strike with one hand from the outside that you never fall.
